I've heard of the close mint mark on 1975 d do I habe one here? the close mint mark error do I have any here?
OMG...do you have some pictures? Just funnin' you. Welcome to CoinTalk, the first bit of advice here usually is not to take any (or very few) Youtube videos seriously.
At this point in time, I have never heard of this close mint mark. All of your seem to be in the same position, allowing for rim damage. Remember, mint marks were hand punched then and the placements can be different on different coins depending upon which die they were struck with.
How do you guys not know about this?! I learned about it reading my Redbook. I have been looking for one ever since. "Premium" value is probably $1-5.00 in circulated condition if you are lucky. How much does the video author say the slabbed version sold for?
I don't get a Red Book every year, and my 2013 copy only mentions that the mintmark was moved to the obverse in 1968. No mention is given for a "near date". Besides, none of the OP's images show a near date as in your photo. By the way, what year is your Red Book? Chris
2018. Only one I have. Got it used from a dealer for cheap. Although, usually if It mentions a variety it shows a value for it. This one does not list a value for this near date. I just want an example b/c it exists lol. Does your copy mention any varieties at all?
I have learned something as well. But I have not used that section in ages as I completed this set many years ago. In any case, I suppose it would be harder finding one in the wild, circulated, that did not enough wear and tear on the rim to make it look like a near date. This is likely one that is easier to identify in MS condition.
all it takes is a quick glance. basically if you look at the photo that I posted on the right hand side you can see that the D is practically touching the five. When CRHing I don't even set them aside to look at later I just glance at it while it's in my hand. I don't think they're very well known because anytime I ask at shows Nobody knows what I'm talking about.
Wow I just watched the video. He is saying value of $20- $50 pretty circulated condition this one's auctioning for a thousand.
No you don't. Compare your images with images of the variety and you will see that you have a normal nickel.
