I picked this up along with a group of assorted world tokens. Not sure what to make of it - it is uniface, flower shaped (scalloped with 8-sides), and appears to have Japanese characters. A previous owner labelled the flip "Japan" & assigned a value of $10.
Well, it's upside-down. Looks like stylized Japanese saying "女高" (Woman + high) Can't find any tokens with those characters. Maybe a pin from a girls' high school?
Great looking Token, looks rare to me! A pic of the reverse without the coin flip would be helpful to determine where it's from, hard to see with the glossy coin flip.
The reverse is blank, so better pictures aren't going to show much. The token is uniface. When I saw this, it sounded a distant bell. Didn't Japan make something like these in occupied territories during WW2?
Fair enough, couldn't tell! Could be a WW2 Token of significance to a certain prefecture idk. Maybe try a reverse image on google, maybe something will come up!
The design of the main device looks like the seal ("coat of arms") for a school or a university. And yes, the Chinese characters say "여고" (in Korean), meaning "girls' high school" in English.
