the most wanted silver coin in asia. just like the morgan dollar. do you have it?. this type of coin have so many chop mark on it.
I'm not too sure if it's the most wanted silver coin in Asia but most certainly one of the most common silver coins. Quite a fair bit of them end up being chopmarked and quite there is quite a fair bit of counterfeit silver yens as well. I would more likely agree if you did say the Korean Yang was more in demand - as the mintage number is a lot lower than the Japanese counterparts.
GX - What a beautiful Meiji 37 yen, and that's undoubtedly the nicest Year 501 5 Yang I've seen, even if the reverse does appear to have been "treated" to a cleaning. Of course, with a mintage of only 20,000, in 1892, there aren't a whole lot of them still floating around in any condition! Is there really as much difference between the obverse and reverse fields as the pictures seem to indicate?
Hello Roy, it's a Meiji 27 1 yen coin. The Korean 5 yang was part of a brooch if I am not mistaken. That will explain the uneven metal blotch as work was done to try to extract every single bit and there are evidence of reengraved section. To add to the uncertainity of the genuineness of the coin, you are indeed right Roy, that the color is a bit off from both the obverse and reverse. I guess it must have happened when the brooch was removed and left some awful black toning. I cannot complain much either - such coins in VF- is usually a 4 digit figure and I cannot blame why. As this is a scarce 1 year type coin and to add to the fact that this is the only silver crown minted during the Korean Penisular era before Korea broke up, this adds up to a crazy figure... And to top up the ridicious figure - would you dare to believe that there were actually some proof Korean 5 yang minted at that time?
japanese dragon yen i wish i could have 100 coin of this beautiful japanese dragon yen. it looks like morgan dollar. the chinese dragon were not standardized.
A genuine Korean 5 yang looks like this http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170111229896 I prefer that over the Japanese silver yen. Very stunning unfortunately prices are too high I'm sure the ending price will come out to be some 2 thousand+++
japanese dragon beware of fake dragon. remember most older silver dollar coins worth a lot. very much temptation to get a fake one.
All the Asian Crown-sized coins have been subjected to forgery at various periods of time, especially the British Trade $1 & the Straits Settlements $1 coins. Aidan.
