Japanese on 1940 Hong Kong Banknote??

I picked up this 1940 Hong Kong 1 Dollar note and it has this writing on the back, not sure what it is but it looks Japanese or Mandarin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

None of them reference the markings on the back though...

 

Is it possible the markings on the back of the note were added at a later date ?
