Since your post is now in bulletin form,I had to start a new thread to answer. I just went and looked up values on proof Indian Head Cents at PCGS,which admittedly is a bit skewed, but it looks several of the IHC's from 1879 on with some exceptions, are valued $300 in PF60-63.If you can go down to PF60,you can get MOST dates for under $200 I would think that the problem might be finding them for sale? Maybe some of our more knowledgeable members can chime in.:thumb:
Auction Companies such as Heritage or DLRC or Teletrade has this type of coin alot--the thing you run into is when going below PF64 you are almost getting a coin with a problem---either bad eye appeal...maybe been dipped....carbon spots...fingerprint...etc... I've run into the same thing with myself--I've always wanted a nice Proof IHC but can't really afford anything better than maybe PF63---and I'm really picky....so after looking pretty hard for 3+ years I still haven't found one that fitted in my collections....I guess the right one will come along and it will be worth the wait! Your biggest problem will be finding lower grade proofs. Perhaps contacting your local dealers or going to local shows would be the best best, since the majors will not carry this stuff. Good luck
The expensive keys in the proof Indian head series are all copper-nickel issues, 1864 L, 1877, and 1886 Type II. Almost everything else is easily available in PR63 Brown or sometimes Red Brown for under $300.
