A while back I bought an eBay lot and the seller tossed this in as a thank you. Not labeled at all, but it looked Indian to me. A bit of research lead me to believe it's from Jaipur, but aside from that I can't find anymore information online, so maybe somebody here can confirm or deny that, and provide some insight as to what it is. Details are a bit dark, my scanner is... well, lazy at best, broken at worst. So, anything you can offer would be appreciated, as well as how to date it myself if you can't make that out. Same size as a US Nickel, and gold/yellow-ish color.
yup its from jaipur rajasthan. the flower gives it away i am prety sure its a 1940's issues but i iwll check later in the morning and let you know. beautiful coin
You have identified it correctly. It's a one Paisa coin from Indian princely state "Jaipur". Spock mentioned about flower which is actually the state symbol "Jhar" and exclusively being used on Jaipur's coin. The obverse has portrait of Jaipur's maharaja "Jhar" below his bust. His name "Maharaja Dhiraj Savai Man Singh 2" is written on both sides. The reverse image looks like a negative image. The date is AD1944; top legend reads the name of Maharaja and bottom legends has the name of state written in urdu. Regards, Ballabh Garg
