I was over at my grandfather's house and he decided to show me his coins. He had JFK, Franklin, Walking Liberty Halves, Silver quarters, dimes, wheaties, mercurys, peace dollar, Ikes, sba, sacagawea, canadian and japanese coins, large cent, Buffalo Nickle, Barber dime and quarter and half, and a Liberty head eagle. Then he took me to the basement. He showed me rolls of wheats, state quarters, and other change. He then showed me a jug filled with about $400 worth of pennies. I was suprised. Then I saw a jug filled with JFK halves. The jug had about an 8 inch diameter and was filled a foot down. I get to look through them soon.
WOW! Sounds like a great way to spend a few days with Grandpa. I have never run into a hoard like that with any of my older family members. I guess they were all too poor to save back any money like that. Consider youself fortunate. Have Fun!!!
ohh this brings up a sad time when my dad was younger, he put all his pennies in an old coca cola glass bottle and about 4 years ago he gave it to me. I did not know anything about collecting yet so I went through about 5% of it and gave up. Now it is in circulation getting picked up by you hawks!!!
Didn't go to well. 2 40% silvers. I also filled up a bunch of holes in my albums. I'm gonna search the rest later.
i always thought of saying something like that, but I wasn't sure if our "adult" population would do their normal thing and shun me, like always....
Sounds fantastic. I think you may be a little off on the amount of pennies (cents) in one jug. I buy cents from the bank in a $50 bag and it is substantial in size and weight. At 8 times this the jug would be about 2 feet by 2 feet minimum. The jugs you discribe sound like the ones they found the Dead Sea Scrools in.
Now Spider - that's not true. I have never shunned you. I might have wanted to get a stick and beat ya a few times - but shunned you ? Never pal
I know my grandpa hoards coins, i just don't know the extent of his collection. He gave me a bunch of wheaties that he saved in a coke bottle.
I just was in my parents room. I was bored so I was looking around my mom's desk in her room. I was seeing what was in her little perfume jars when I saw one that was filled with coins! I found a bunch of canadian coins, other world coins, a handful of wheats, buffalo and wartime nickle, mercury dime, silver quarters, a JFK half, state quarters, a Peace Dollar, SBA, and a pearl. I was suprised because I had no intent on finding coins!
It's all in how you ask the question... "Mom - you know how much I love coins, do you have any I could look at or search?" LOL
