    Hi again all,

I have a gold coloured 1 Ducat coin that has 'US President J F Kennedy Visits Europe 1963' on one side with a side profile picture of JFK. On the other side it has 'Pro Prosperitate Mundi Magnus Aureus' around the outside with 1 Ducat in the middle. Please see the photos.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks :)

not sure if it is coin or a medal, I am guessing it is a coin because of the 1 ducat denomination. could be a medal ? they say it's from Germany. I thought the "ducat" was from Austria or Hungary ???

    coin size- 20.1 mm
    weight- 3.5 grams
gold fineness- .980 or 22K or 22 carat
sweet gold coin/medal... did you just a inheritance ? lol

I saw this one on ebay too but its a little different to mine. My one doesnt have the wreaths all the way around, instead it has the writing US President JF Kennedy visits Europe 1963.

Nah I didnt get an inheritance :wacky: I've been coin collecting for years and need the cash now unfortunately so am now looking at selling a couple.

Thanks for all your help btw, you obviously know your stuff!

Tell me about it! Instead of pawning stuff I just use the credit card, tho I'm sure it costs me more with the fees etc! I love shopping at pawn shops tho, they always have interesting stuff!
I have an old box with Australian pennies/half pennies etc but am yet to find out. Have not long moved house so it'll be here somewhere! Also have what I think is a King George 1899 Coin. What about yourself? :)

I mostly collect world coins. topical/themed collections. my personal favorite is "coins with insects", then "coins with certain stars", "coins with hands", "coins with small coins on the coin as the design itself", MISC. section (huge), toned coins, some U.S. coins,, dtatehood/American the beautiful quarters, mercury dimes, president dollars. sac dollars. :blackalien:

Nah, a medal with a "fantasy" denomination. The Aureus Magnus pieces were "issued" by Werner Graul who, in the mid-1950s, had the idea of creating a gold world currency. Was a flop (surprise) but he did make a few nice medals. In gold and silver, with various "denominations". This page http://www.aureus-magnus.com/katalog/emission3.html shows the Kennedy piece (in the 10 ducats variety) as #47.

Werner Graul was an interesting guy, by the way. This is a movie poster that he created, in the 1920s, for Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Sort of famous, at least around here. :) Graul was 21 years old then.

His attitude regarding the nazi regime was, hmm, ambiguous. Graul sure had racist and pagan views but he also lived, to some extent, in his own universe. The themes and people he honored with his (several hundred) Aureus Magnus designs, between the mid-1950s and early 80s, sure were much more diverse.

Hi, wondering if anyone else has had any experience with the JFK Coins, specifically this one #47: This page http://www.aureus-magnus.com/katalog/emission3.html shows the Kennedy piece (in the 10 ducats variety) as #47. (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/j-f-kennedy-visits-europe-1963-1-ducat-coin-medal.249058/)
Wondering if it's valued at anything greater than the weight of the coin??

NGC values it at 216.53 in MS63. Maybe the value would be greater in a 65 or better, but it seems these are valued as bullion.
One sold at HA earlier this year for $240 inc BP.
