Hey guys, I've held on to my mothers old coin collection for some time now, and I'm just curious to see if they have any value. I'm most curious about this misprinted penny I have. It's hard to describe the misprint, so I sketched up a quick concept in paint. I hope this gets the image across. It's exactly like it appears in the image. I also have a couple buffalo nickels. I've got 5 of them total. They're all kinda shiny, and 2 of them are 1935, one's 1924 (it's pretty bad shape, it's blackish, but you can see the date). The other ones dates aren't visible. On the back, under the words "Five Cents'' is an S. I have two coins that have this, the rest don't. One's a 1935 and the other date isn't visible. I also have a half dollar. On the front of it there's a D, the date is 1776 - 1976. On the back it says United States of America like all half dollars, with a picture of independence hall and a caption on the left side saying "200 years of freedom". The last coin is in pretty bad shape. It's a quarter, but on the front is a woman standing between two slab type things. There's a M on the bottom right. The back is an eagle, says United States of America quarter dollar. If anyone can provide some insight, it's be much appreciated. Thanks!
The half dollar is a clad Bicentennial half dollar. Nothing real special. The woman standing between slabs sounds like a Standing liberty quarter. Does it have a date? Allso if there is a mint mark, it would be on the obverse(front) of the coin right above the the date. Example:
The Lincoln cent is an off center strike, relatively common and worth a couple of dollars. If the date was showing, it would be worth more. There's a bunch of 'em on eBay, here's one similar to yours: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lincoln-Cen...19?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item20c3187a83
Yeah, that's exactly what it is. Yes, it has a mint mark. And S. I didn't notice it before because I have to look really closely. It's almost completely worn down.
Year is going to make or break the value on the standing liberty. Lincoln error is 5 bucks. The half is a spender. 50 cents. The buffalos nickels are worth maybe a dollar each. Probably more like fifty cents.
Welcome to the forums, btw. If you have a scanner, you might want to scan the quarter. Even in badly worn condition, there are some telltale signs to look for to tell if it is one of the elusive (and valuable) Type-I. Here's some more information on why there are relatively few 1917-S Type I's: http://coins.about.com/od/famousrarecoinprofiles/p/breastedliberty.htm
