My goal was to move my Eisenhower collection from 2 1/2" X 2 1/2" coin flips to Airtites and still keep them in a three ring binder. I wanted this because Airtites were supposed to be more archival safe. I still wanted the ability to view them, both sides, while in BCW 9 pocket pages. Well, the Airtites are too small for the pockets and slip out very easily. This also applies to the snap-on 2" X 2" poly holders. There doesn't seem to be any BCW pages to fit, talked to BCW Rep. So I gave in and bought the Airtite Album from The Coin Supply Store using size " H" pages. Also bought one extra page because each page only fits 5 Airtites. Well guess what? The size "H" holes are to small for my Airtites with the inner ring. I screwed up again. I'm returning the album and paying the return mail cost. So I am now switching back to the coin flips which fit just right into the BCW 9 pocket pages. This all set me back about $100 bucks because I wasn't very careful and didn't do my homework by calling and talking to all involved to insure everything would fit properly.:headbang::headbang: zeke
What about a Dansco? I have the no-proof Ike album and I like it. And in the extra three holes I put the 1972 type 2, type 3, and a Blue Ike token from the mint packaging.
This post is now very confusing lol. Everyones reply only says " edited, Forum Rules" But which rule did we violate?
tsk, tsk, (no sales of things on the regular forums guys ) I feel your pain Zeke. I have bought so many stupid supplies that didn't work out its sad. I basically played around with about everything before deciding safe slips either in sheets or in trays offers me the most versatility. Its always fun to dream, though, that some new system will make it all work better. It was worth a shot!
I'm going through this with some of my foreign coins. I really wanted them in airtites and in a book of some kind, but I just couldn't make it work. I am basically thinking I'm going to keep them in 2x2s and put them in a album with polyester pages.
basically Zeke said he bought all those airtites which didnt work out and he wasnt using, so I said he could give them to me lol.
Yeah, you ran into my problem with different sized coins. Add into that ancients can be either extremely thick, or extremely thin, and don't have perfectly circular flans, (heck some are square), and they didn't work. For non-standard stuff, I have just found flips to be very versatile.
Your IKEs would do very well in a DANSCO Album. Yes, DANSCO's could allow the coins to tone but if you want to insure that they don't, simply order a custom, blank album. I expect that the 1/2" model would do nicely although the 3/4" would be best. Next, order the unmarked pages for dollar coins. 4 pages will completely fill the album so that when its closed, there is no gap(s) between the binder covers and the pages. This eliminates the circulation of air which is required for toning to occur. Vacuum as much of the cardboard dust out of the album pages as you can. Finish off by using tape to pick up any loose cardboard after you've inserted the reverse plastic slide. Inserting the obverse plastic slide may reveal more dust so you'll just have to use your best judgement on how to address this. Store the album in a cool (not cold) dry location and you should be fine for many, many years.
Although it might be tough putting an Ike airtite into a 2x2, and even tougher getting it to fit into the page slots.
And, how are you supposed to be able to open up the airtight and handle your coins? ...oh, sorry, I forgot US collectors weren't allowed to play with their coins.
The offer was made. And no, that isn't exactly what you said. And the following post even had a price. And then someone else spoke up. The rules are quite clear, all you need do is read them.
Why not try a different brand name album without the airtites? Intercept markets it's "corrosion protection technology" that I find interesting. I'm not promoting this, just passing along some info. http://www.interceptshield.com/technology.html
