Most of you are probably sick of seeing my animal coins, but in case someone is interested, I've been working on a website to display them for easier viewing. I wanted something that I could maintain and add to myself and that I'd know wouldn't suddenly shut down. With that in mind, I've been building these two pages on Wordpress. One is for my bear coins, and the other for my turtle coins. I'd like to add more in the future, but I need to rescan some coins and just have time to do the work. The coins display as thumbnails, and if you click on one you can scroll through in a gallery view. Here is the page for the bear coins. These are showing up out of order and I'm still looking for a good way to have it automatically organize them so I don't have to redo the order manually whenever I get a new coin. Here are the turtle coins.
Those are awesome. I really like how they are displayed too. I am glad someone else is doing topical themed world coins like me with the insects, hands, and stars coins. does that website cost money to post there ?
Awesome! Reminds me I need to play around with my site too. Love the simple, clean interface. Who did you go with for hosting? Looks like WordPress...was that a template? Such nosy questions but for near-Luddites like me it's fun to see how other people pull together their sites. Bears are awesome! So are turtles too--one of my friends calls her littlest one 'Turtle' and if she had ANY interest in coins, this would be fun for her. Sadly, she is not our kind of nerd though.
They have different membership tiers. The basic tier that I'm using is free and you get I think 3 GB of memory. They must compress the files because I uploaded a lot of photos and I'm using less than 2 percent right now I think. It's pretty user friendly and you don't need to know how to code.
I'm using Wordpress both for hosting and to build the site. We use it where I work so I'm more familiar with it, but as I said in another post, it's plug and play basically. You don't need to know how to code. Just have to figure out the options and try different ones. There are basic free plans, which is great. And yes, obviously I like bears and turtles. Lots of other animals too. I just haven't gotten around to getting all the pics taken and organized. We call my 1-year-old "Little Bear" sometimes too.
Very nice, and a lot of work. I did something similar recently using GoDaddy.com. I wanted a site of my own to display and promote my coin albums. It is still a work in progress and not really up to speed 100%, but it's free and fun to work with. I plan to add a section with a photo gallery displaying my World Silver bullion coins as soon as I can get them structured the way I want. I am hoping to provide a service soon. I knew you collected turtles and bears, but did not realize how extensive your collection was. Nice!
