Hi Everyone, Happy Weekend! I got my first fun package at my new apartment and, by, was it a good one! It was the AMCC3 wins for my brother and I plus a few extra goodies. My brother is up first. He hasn't bought any coins in about three years. He bounces from hobby to hobby with video games being his favourite fall back hobby. I strongly encouraged him to participate in AMCC3 because it could be a long time before we get another one. He did and won all the coins he bid on: a tetradrachm in the name of Alexander the Great, a Cistiphoric tetradrachm from Mysia and an obol from Pisidia. I apologize for the lousy group shots - yikes! Now onto my win. Most people know I collect Judaean/Biblical coins. One of the essentials to this collection is the Tribute Penny. There's a lot of debate about what that coin actually was, but, this particular coin is most often labelled as it. This one is a fouree and it fits nicely with my AE Shekel of Tyre. Getting the legit silver coins is on my dream list wayyyyy down the road, but, I'm more content with what I have. I was completely blown away by what else I found in the package. A very generous gifter gave me a Theodora follis - wow! @Severus Alexander also gifted me a few Byzantine coins - an Alexius Angelus-Comnenus trachy, a John II half tetarteon and an overstruck Michael II follis with Nicephorus on top. (Pictures of the Tribute Penny and Theoroda follis to follow) I am truly overwhelmed! Wow! I can't thank you all enough! My brother and I collected coins from the @arnoldoe, JB and @Severus Alexander collections. I think we made out pretty well. Thanks especially to Severus Alexander and the anonymous donor. I very much appreciate your generosity! The auction was fun. We should do it again sometime. Take care and stay safe, friends! Erin
Erin, Congrats on a nice haul from AMCC 3 ! You & your brother did well . The large Tet & the Byzantine over-strike are my favorites .
WOW! WHAT A CLUTCH of coins! Congrats, Erin and Bro! And very nice generosity from Mr @Severus Alexander ! Very kind. I like 'em all Erin... really great on you!
How wonderful for you, Erin (@Johndakerftw)! I am always happy when I witness the generosity of the members here at Coin Talk! Our community is the best!
Thanks everyone! You’re right, Roman Collector, our community IS the BEST! Ive been told that the Tribute Penny can be cleaned up a bit, but, I’m too afraid to mess with it. I get a little shaky when handling small thing like the obol. So, I don’t want to take a chance. But, I’m happy with it regardless. Erin
Yes.There are thick layers of horn silver, but it takes substantial skill to remove them. Distilled water and brushing will do nothing to remove them.
The Byzantine coins are nice and you've got to admit it, they do have personalities all their own. The other coins are nice, as well. The Alexander III tetradrachm looks like a 3rd-2nd century BC coin, possibly Celtic? I am not an expert on this coinage. I only know for sure that there are more mints and varieties of his posthumous coinage than there are fleas on the back of a dog..... I agree that horn silver is very difficult to remove, and you never know what's beneath it, almost always corrosion, so it is best to leave well enough alone.
You guys are right, I’ll leave Tiberius alone. Alexander tets were around for a long time from what I gather. This one is from an unknown mint in Pamphylia. The tetradrachms are nice to hold. Erin
Nice wins and tremendous gifts Erin : they say a lot about how much people at CT appreciate you Well deserved !! Q
