It's hard to see in the pics

    I have this 1971D cent the top of the obverse in the IGWT part shows what looks like a"W" that was accidentally put there by the die. I know the pics are not the best, but if you look at the space between the "D" and "W" at the base is two marks that I think represent the bottom of the "W". check it out:rolling:

    Die clash?

    It looks to be a die break, but I would need better pictures to call it anything else.

    It looks like whatever you want it to look like. I see it between the 'O' and the 'D' also.

    It looks like a "W" but it is neither incuse or in relief! Therefore, it was not something struck by the Die! It is either just some odd stain or someone put the "W" there with a pen or magic marker and with time, circulation and possible washings, it has faded almost entirely away.

    No stain, marker, or magic trick. It has the marks on the bottom of where the W was hit by the die or something.
