Hello all. It's the *New "Fearsome Franklin Friday!". Please post yours as well...... Coins, Tokens or medals welcome! Here we have a 1948, 1955 "Bugs Bunny" variety and a 1956 "Bugs Bunny" variety. From Numismaticnews.net “Bugs Bunny” is a nickname or slang term for a die clash that appears across Benjamin Franklin’s mouth on the half dollars, giving him the appearance of having buck teeth. The die clash is damage to the die from it hitting the opposing die without a planchet between them. This damage from the reverse design is then transferred onto the struck coins. Even less well known is that examples of the die clash are readily found for other dates and mints, but the 1955 got all the publicity and glory. Found @dwhiz having fun! @lordmarcovan is MIA as far as Pics go. Lost you buddy, sorry.
I have this piece for my type set, bought specifically for the special holder.... ....but here is my favorite Franklin piece in my collection. I was a firefighter for 17 years, so I had to pick this up when I saw it:
Yeah, sorry. I’ve been scarce lately. That “Ben” fella certainly gets around, doesn’t he? Here I am with him at the 2023 FUN show in Orlando. I did not attend FUN 2024 and did not see him at FUN 2025.
I do not presently own a Franklin half in my personal collection. I do have one in my detector finds album and one FBL and one proof in my giveaway goodies. If y’all would like to enter to win one of those last two mentioned, click here to go to the current contest.
