What is a gas pump 88?

Back in the day, gas pumps had rotary/mechanical numbers that where on a wheel. The wheels would turn as you pumped gas and the totals increased.

The last two numbers on the OP’s note (88) are higher than the rest appearing as it would look on an old gas pump.

Like the double digit combinations, very unique, just not unique enough
    To have any value.

If I found it, I’d keep it.

But, I wouldn’t pay anything above face to own it.

Did your dollar come with a set of glasses?

Here's mine from a Marathon station. Back when fuel was regulated all of the gas stations had the same price. So the gas stations would give you something free with a fill up to entice you to use their gas.

I don't remember if this was still during regulated fuel prices or after, and the stations were still giving away free stuff when you filled up.
