My latest find in picking through a biscuit tin of mixed world coins... Italy - 2 Centesimi Obv:- UMBERTO I RE D'ITALIA. Head of King Umberto I facing left Rev:- Value and date within two branches, one of laurel and the other of oak. Above the Star of Italy and below the mintmark. 2 / CENTESIMI / 1898 // R Reference:- KM#30 Mintage:- 281,500 (low mintage year)
That's an awesome moustache @maridvnvm. I don't collect world coins, though I have a few that I like. In particular, I find the design of this 20 centesimi, struck under the reign of Vittorio Emanuele III (1900 - 1946), very nice: Metal: Nickel 21.5 mm, 4 g Thickness 1 mm Italy, Rome, 1924; mintmark R, mintage 50,372,000 Reverse Designer: Leonardo Bistolfi Engraver: Luigi Giorgi Edge: Reeded Reference: KM 44; Schön 45 Ob.: ITALIA, Head left admiring wheat ear in her hand Rev.: Victory in flight holding torch in l. hand. Below is the crowned Savoy coat of arms and the names of the author and of the engraver, to the left of the shield denomination C.20, year of issue 1921 and mintmark R = Rome
Nice find in the tin. Reverse looks to have a little improper annealing (woody). I don't have many Italian coins but this well circulated example appealed to me because of the bee.
I have picked out another couple of other Italy coins from the tin.... Quite nice condition but nothing special. Italy, Victor Emmanuel III, 50th Kingdom's Birthday Obv:- VITTORIO EMANVELE III RE D'ITALIA, Head of King Vittorio Emanuele III facing left Rev:- In the field there are two standing figures: the female represents Italy and the male Rome. Italy has her left hand on a plow adorned with ears and fruits. Behind the figures there is a giant merchant ship. The value and the mintmark are low right Reference:-KM#51 Mintage:- 2,000,000 This one is from Naples. Italian States - Naples, 10 (Dieci) Tornesi Obv:- FRANCISCVS I.D.G.REGNI VTR.SIC.ET HIER.REX, Head of Francesco I right Rev:- Crown above / TORNESI / DIECI / 1825 Reference:- KM#293 39.15 mm. 31.97 gms.
