This Italian 1000 Lire note also came from a pile of bills apparently collected by a relative that used to travel the world. Dating this one is a little tricky because at the bottom front center the date clearly reads, in fiery eye-catching red, "Agosto 1947," but the small print to the extreme left side reads "settembre 1961," which I believe is its actual issue date from a series that began in 1947. In this condition it likely carries little value, but it's a beautifully executed design nonetheless. Front "Italia" to the left, watermark to the right. Head of Medusa seal bottom center "PAGABILI A VISTA AL PORTATORE" = payable to the bearer on sight Back "LA LEGGE PUNICSCE I FABBRICATORE E GLI SPACCIOTORI DI BIGLIETTI FALSI" = the law punishes manufacturers and dealers of fake bills
