When I was cataloging this coin I noticed the Star of Italy was missing the top right rays. I believe that area of the coin would be hard to wear - I believe it could be a grease-filled die error. Wonder what the members thoughts was. THX Ed
No for circulation wear to have removed that lower relief feature that is in a protected area with higher relief features around it, the higher relief areas would have to be worn down to that level. Also notice there is not excessive wear on the other high point areas of the design. Looks like a grease fill to me. Die polishing might have a slight chance since the rays on the other side of the star are weak as well, but the lower rays are not affected with makes it less likely.
Thanks all - sorry took so long to get back to this post. I always depend on Coin Talk for great info. THX Ed
