The first coin is obviously a 2 lira - the date appears to be1946 - the first year of issue. It says right on it Republic of Italy. The value ranges from $7.50 in Fine to $110 in Unc. Coin number 2 is a 1941 2 lira. It's value ranges from 50 cents in Fine to $11.50 in Unc. Coin number 3 is a 1940 50 centesimi. Value ranges from 25 cents in Fine to $5 in Unc. Coin number 4 is a 1940 1 lira. Value ranges from 30 cents in Fine to $5.50 in Unc. Based on the pics I would judge the last 3 coins as Fine. For the first coin it's hard to say for sure but it may grade as EF with a value of $50.
coin dates going from left to right the date are 1948, 1939, 1940, 1940. thank you for the very descriptive of their value, i have one last question on a website called heritage, ill get the url asap there was a 1947 2 lira coin exactly like mine, the one with the wheat, was selling at an auction for $525. can one year really make that big of a difference in value? it said it was a rare date so i guess that is why, I understand that value is relative because it is how much someone wants a particular coin but thats a big difference. thank you for everything
coin link here is the link see what you can make of it http://www.heritagecoin.com/common/view_item.php?source=&Sale_No=357&Lot_No=14119
First of all, a lesson in auction bidding. If you bid $525 and win the coin, it will cost you $642.40 in your mailbox (or $646.65 if you use a P.O. Box). Always read the auction description, and any links provided, very carefully. This is a typical auction house deal, with a buyer's premium of 20% of the bid. Internet auctions normally have a shippling & handling charge, and in this case it is $9.90 for insured delivery to a street address, or $14.15 to a P.O. Box. No problem if you take premium/shipping/handling into account when figuring your maximum bid, but a huge problem if you look only at the bid itself. (Most live auctions have bidder's premiums, but often they only are 10-12%.) You betcha! For your coin, KM#88, the 2005 Krause lists the following mintages, and gives the following Uncirculated values (generally assumed to be for raw MS63 graded coins): 1946 113,000 $175.00 1947 12,000 $850.00 1948 7,200,000 $9.00 1949 1,350,000 $53.00 1950 2,640,000 $13.50 Remember, supply and demand are major factors in valuing coins. Since the designs and metallic content are identical, it can be assumed that demand for individual 1946-50 2 Lire coins in any particular grade will be about the same, but since there were 600 times as many '48s minted as '47s, it's not really surprising to see a large value differential. The fact that the one in the Heritage sale is an MS65, graded by one of the "big four", means it can be expected to bring a significant premium over what a sight-unseen raw Uncirculated coin would. That the estimated range is just about Krause (when bidder premium and shipping are included) says more about the unreliability of Krause as a "price list" than anything else.
Hmmm - thought I could see the dates well enough - obviously couldn't There are 2 reasons why your coin, the '48 2 lira, and the '47 have such wide value variances. First of all the '47 is an MS65 example - yours is EF. The condition of the coin makes a huge difference in value. Secondly - the '48 had a mintage of 7,200,000 while the '47 had a mintage of 12,000. So being able to find a gem uncirculated example of a '47 2 lira is not easy to do. Therefore the value difference.
thanks thank you for everything. As you can probably tell i am a beggining coin collector. i recently was looking up any coin that i had to see their value and i dont really know much about km#88, ms65 and thatb whole enchilada. My father had these coins for a long time so i was wondering if they were worth anything. IT doesn't matter becuase im not collecting coins to make money to because i like them. i dont want to spend thousands of dollars on a rare coin. thank you for everything, i guess collecting coins i more complicated than i thought. one more thing in light of recent events i dont have much hope but is this worth anything. 1936 10 centesimi San marino coin thanks again
Krause values for this coin range from $1.50 to $7.00. Based on the pic & apparent condition I would say your coin is worth about $3.50.
thank you, as i imagined nothing special. thank you everybody for all their advice. you have answered all my questions. thanks again bye
