Hello we found a 500 lira note from Italy in my grandmas house after she passed away. We wondered what year it was but we can't seem to find a year printed on it anywhere. I know it has to be from between 1966-1982 because there were no 500 notes after 82 and it doesn't look like the pre 1966 notes i found. Upper left corner says I 06 upper right says 104859 If that helps. I don't know how else you would figure out the date. Thanks for any help.
You can fairly easily narrow the date range down a little, as there were two different types. The first one listed here was in circulation until the mid-1970s; the second one was replaced by a bimetallic coin in 1982 ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lire_500_(Aretusa).JPG Arethusa type, first printed in 1966 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lire_500_(Mercurio).JPG Mercury type, first printed in 1974 Christian
Thanks for your help. It is the mercury type so I can narrow it down now to only a couple of years. Thanks again.
