Well, if you are like me, it's the time of year to look at your coins and thinking, "If I get a gift card to my dealer what would I want to upgrade?" I'm sure almost everyone has one in their collection...the misfit. The one that is just below the grade of all the others in the collection. Typically, for me this is because I'm from a small town with little coin resources and it's better for my sanity to have a "filler" to later upgrade at a show than to pass on the opportunity hoping for a better one to come into the small shop. So, take a moment, cherish those misfit coins and post them in the thread!

PS: Would be nice to tell why they are a misfit, but not necessary.

Since I started the thread, I'll start the pics: My Roosevelt dime collection is COMPLETE! All MS 63 or better and there are no misfits in that bunch. My Mercs...well, I have about six I would grade as "fine," in a set that is VF or better. 2 of these being the 1921's, by which I will not upgrade for the health of my wallet would be at risk. However, the other 4 I"m always on the lookout. They are common dates, and ones I bought when I first started the series, and probably why I'm hesitant to quickly replace them. In any event, here's one:

Same thing happened with Frankie. Almost all of them are MS 60 or better. There are five though, again bought when I first started the series that I now consider as AU. Here's the first in the series-his hair looks like it should be in a revitalizing shampoo commercial and the bell is a bit hazy. Once the set is completed, I'll start to look for the replacement. Until then, it'll sit as my 1948 P place holder.

And lastly, my only considerable Ebay success. I wanted to start a collection of Sac Dollars...bought the entire lot cheap on Ebay. All of the coins from this lot were brilliant...except this one for some reason. I don't know if the seller ran out of 02's and had to find a quick replacement for me, but the obverse is nasty looking, sort of like Sacagewea has been in a cat fight. The reverse, toned to a dirty brown. Yes, I like the brown and how it adds a little relieve to the eagle's feathers, but when compared to all the bright gold dollars in my portfolio, this one is the misfit.
