I know nothing about this AE 22.7, 2.50gm. Coin. (I cannot even be sure as to how I came by it. I am thinking that a friend gave it to me.) Anyway, I digress. Yes, I am at a loss here. Not Roman? Maybe Islamic? Can anyone assist with some information please? Some more shots from a different angle (and lighting).
Yes, this is Islamic. The top line of your left picture seems to read "al-Sultan al-a'zam". Apart from that it is to far gone for me to attempt any attribution.
My hunch (not worth a lot) is Golden Horde. Something about the fabric and the flourish at the bottom.
@THCoins Thank-you for that confirmation. Looking at my first photograph, can you tell me if the coins are 'aligned' correctly, (right way up), please?
On your top photo, the left one is correctly aligned. The right seems to be an identical text to the left, but is positioned upside-down ?
i'm not really aure about this. But i've been heared urdu language, arabian language, hindi either shansekerta langeague had a similar chara teristic bout their alphabetic. Hopefully, this information will have you.
@THCoins You are so right. My inexperience with Islamic coins meant that I did not realise my mistake. In the first photo, the second 'shot' is of the same side of the coin as the first (in both photos). The only 'shot' of the other side of the coin is the last 'shot'. Can you please tell me if that 'shot' is aligned correctly?
I appreciate what you have contributed. It is my only 'Islamic' coin, and I will file it "Islamic Bronze (poss. 1240-1502)" Thank-you, again.
@Pellinore That would put it at 1220/1221AD which fits with @Severus Alexander 's 'Golden Horde' comment. Thank-you for the 'update'. Ties in nicely.
@Pellinore That's O.K. Thanks. I am staying with 1240 - 1502AD. (My reference to the Gregorian date was for your example.) When I learn more about Islamic coins I may be able to 'pin' mine down more closely.
Well, I'd put it in the 1200-1300 region, maybe more at the 1200 side. Your coin reminded me of the bold lettering of the Seljuqs, like this, a fals of Kai Kawus I (1211-1220). These coins are no easy stuff, but it's very rewarding when you get to understand a bit of it.
