Is this worth picking up?

Today at work I found 3 fresh consecutive 2006 $1 notes with this ink situation going on, it's more splotchy than they example and not so consistent if that makes sense. Meaning the letters are less pronounced but the ink is darker and "splotchier" on the ones I found.

    Example:

Sorry as I realize this message isn't necessarily the easiest to understand, if I wasn't a dumbass i would have just bought them and taken pictures, but like usual I do things the hard way lol

    Thanks

Collectors of US paper money (speaking from the perspective of being in the US) have the huge advantage of being able to pick up stuff from circulation at face value, show it around, stash it away, ponder its value, and possibly just spend it later - all without any cost or loss. I really suggest going that route :)

I totally agree, like I said above, I'm kicking myself for not just buying them today. I still have them at work so I will buy them tomorrow and post pics.

really need pictures of the notes you are asking about. that $50 that you show is know for having bleeding of ink. so yours might be more of an error.

John, like I stated in your other thread a few days earlier, Need some advice - 1990 $50 star what you are seeing in regards to the ink on these notes does not indicate any special error nor carry a particular premium over face. Notes from this era often show such ink offset which occurred from extreme pressure and damp inks after printing and stacking the notes. You're not the only one who inquires about this ink issue. The question comes up somewhat frequently and I just wanted to reaffirm this for you and others.

The clarity or sharp quality of the ink could also constitute a basis for eye-appeal to a collector. Blotchy printing could deteriorate eye-appeal for collectors who seek examples with very high quality of printing. The blotchy looking ink could also potentially be from (mis)handling. I believe from this scan the bottom margin looks a bit rippled and the brightness of the paper is another thing, this looks a bit yellowed. Additionally the upper right corner looks to have a fold that was straightened out and the bottom right a small corner bump. Rarity and flawlessness in notes are what will usually demand a premium from collectiors, and the consecutive SNs you have here also don't seem all too special to demand any premium. One other thing is the centering of the print on the paper (how the note was cut from the sheet), the face seems to be shifted a bit to the left on this note, yet another consideration for higher grade examples to demand a premium.

I also agree with Dave's comment earlier, buy em, hold em while you are learning and collecting them turn them over if and when you need to.

That's My Two Bucks worth... :smile

My original message was kind of confusing, I'm just using the $50 for an example of the ink situation.

The notes I am referring to are 2006 series $1 bills.

Cool, I will buy them tomorrow for sure and post up pics, I was just too lazy to wait and buy $3 today wanted to go home. I am also going to try and get my hands on a $5 note in a new shipment that had green smudges and splots all around the serial numbers.

Krispy thank you for your critique on that $50, it helps me as far as knowing how things grade and what to look for. Also thanks for the input on the ink situation. If they are nothing special I'll just spend them. I'll still post some pics though tomorrow just to be sure, they aren't exactly like that $50

Here are those pictures, the ink bleed or wet transfer is fairly consistent across the front, there is also a minor amount on the back. Krispy, I promise I'm not trying to drive you crazy lol I just want to make 100% sure they aren't anything special before I dismiss them. 3 consecutive bills 01-03, they are flawless aside from the crappy printing.

This kind of ink transfer is incredibly common to find in circulation. They are not error notes. Also, there doesn't seem to be anything special with the consecutive SNs you mentioned these had either. My advice is to spend them.
