Wide. Would help also if you showed the designer's initials (i.e. the FG to the right of the memorial).
I say funny because it makes no sense to me. Usually the business strikes I see with close AM have the left side of the M much thinner than the right side, and the inner angles of the bottom space in the A rounded like this. The wide AM coins usually have more sharp corners in the A and the two sides of the M much more even in thickness. It looks like a wide AM by distance between the letters, but with the characteristics of a close AM
Here's the whole coin.. it's a 1993... designer initials FG... obviously poor condition but wonder if it is a real 1993 wide AM.
Hmmm. Initials and Numismat's comments make me think close now. Officially in the "I have no idea" camp.
Well from the second picture it looks very much like close AM. First picture looked like significant distance, but I suppose that can be a trick of the lighting or flash or whatever. Die characteristics are clearly those of close AM though.
Well, I did some more research and I'm inclined to think it's a poorly struck Close AM. The location of the designer initials are indicative of Close AM, though the experts say the A and the M should be touching, which clearly they aren't. I was pondering putting it on eBay to see what reaction would be, but for the moment, I think I'll just keep it and think it over... thanks for the discussion, had me excited earlier when I thought I found a penny worth more than a penny.
