I'm referring to the uneven rim. I've never noticed any like that before and was going to label it special, but then I thought I should find out if it truly is special.
Truth be told, it's about as far from "unique" as one can get, unfortunately. If I had to guess I'd say it's likely what's called a misaligned die, and is very common, but posting a photo of the reverse would say for sure.
No offense "Papa" but once you've examined a few billion pennies, then, you might be entitled to say "I've never noticed any like that before...." Chris
Thanks for the help. Perhaps an opinionated "special" is what I will consider it. It appears to be the same on the reverse.
As was said before it is called a misaligned die, when the hammer comes down to strike the coin sometimes the hammer can be off just a smidge which makes the coin kinda look off center but the reverse looks normal that being said it is not really worth more than a cent unless the misalignment is so severe it is actually missing design features. Nice photo's btw
I wasn't being sarcastic, but there have been hundreds and hundreds of other posters (maybe more!) who have said this very same thing. You must have a big family. Now, that was being sarcastic! Chris
I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with your self identified sarcastic remark about my family. As to your response to the first reply I'm not looking to butt heads, so I will just respond "Okay".
Even though it's pretty common I still save them. Get yourself a 3 ringed binder and some 2X2 holder pages and some cardboard 2x2 coin holders that you staple closed and start an "error" binder. (tamp the reverse staples flat with a hammer so the cardboard holder slide easily into the holder pages. You can always find them on Ebay - they are mostly all the same so look around for the lowest price..
Thanks for all the informative replies. I believe now tat this is referred to as an off center strike because the reverse is misaligned on the same area as the obverse. I will look at it more closely when I return home.
So I was looking at some examples of off center strike, and one was quite funny. The person claimed 100% off center strike with no mint mark and selling g for several dollars! ha ha ha
hmm if it was 100% off center I would think that would be a blank planchet also after looking at yours again I see that it is oh so slightly off center, put it in a holder and keep it only one cent so hopefully won't break you lol.
