I'm new into collecting coins. Pretty sure this one is silver though, yes?

    Thanks! :)

All dimes struck after 1964 and intended for circulation are copper/nickel clad.

Yeah I know, but this really looks like a rare 1965 dime struck on a 1964 silver planchet error that is so valuable and extremely rare. I need to go get this weighed and cross my fingers for 2.5 grams!

    Look at the edge.

The easiest way to see the difference is to look at the edges. The clad coin will show a ring of copper. I’m sure that you’ve seen this a thousand times.

It is completely silver! It has some natural aging but it looks nothing like the other one. Keep your fingers crossed!

My thought also.. look at the edge. Does it look like copper sandwiched between to clad layers?
Show a picture of both coins edges!

I see a thin line of copper

How about an image of the edge and of the date from fewer miles away.

You know, if that image was any smaller, we wouldn't see anything at all.

Sorry lol. And yes but it's faint like it's just from years and years of rubbing up next to cheap pennies. This coin feels slightly heavier too and passes the silver "ring" test. The weight will be the determining factor.

I can also see a trace of copper. Not all clad coins are created equally, some show the copper boldly and some do not. Your answer lies in weighing it.

Find a normal Dime and put it next to the Dime in question.. then try the Tissue Test!
Silver will appear brighter then clad.. 1 ply tissue is best

It passed the tissue test too! Could I really be this insanely lucky on literally my 2nd day of going through coins around the house....?

The odds are almost zero. But you never know.
I don't know how many of these have surfaced. A few?
They made over 1.6 billion dimes that year.
    500 million-1 odds.
Odds on winning the Powerball 292 million-1.

Weigh the bloody thing. That will tell ya whether or not it's silver. 2.50 grams for silver and 2.27 grams for clad........
