Is this simply a strike-thru error, or is there more going on here?

Hi all. This is a first-time posting and I'm looking for more experienced opinions. I recently found this 1965 quarter in a bank roll and I am curious if it is a genuine strike-through error on the obverse (foreign material), and perhaps something else going on the reverse? The dark spot below the IGWT on the obverse and the dark streak on the reverse right wing appear to be dried grease or some form of muck, where the reverse shows possible sign of the outer cladding layer abutting and chipped (???). The eagle's head area between the wing tips has a ripple in the metal face between E Pluribus and Unum that is not discernible when you look at the coin from the horizontal. Do you feel its worth sending to get graded and cleaned?

I'm in the damaged coin column. No to submitting. One year earlier and it would have been silver. You're asking all the right questions though.

It's damaged. Not an error. Not a strike through. Welcome to CT.

I dunno about the reverse but the obverse look's like it was hit with a staple hammer at least 4 times.

The flatness on the reverse would be from the force of the whacks. No sure what the black stuff is.

It's simply damage. NOT a strike through.

I guess it's been tested and proven that you cannot staple through a quarter.

As for your opening poll, 1) it's already been cleaned a few times - 2) please don't - 3) spend it on the wife if anyone will take it at face value ;)
