I am going through an old family collection to figure out what things are worth and found this coin. From my research, I believe it is a 1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Sorry, but I only have a picture of this side. Can anyone tell me if this is real and if I have the name correct and what it might be worth?

    Thanks.

The surfaces look funky to me.... My guess would be a cast copy...

    It's way too perfect. I don't think it's real.

These coins were minted on primitive rocker presses. I've seen many, and every one is misshapen, odd planchet shape, off center, etc. One way to evaluate one for purchase is to evaluate the degree of these imperfections and how much they affect you personally.

None are perfect. They were imperfect the moment they were made.

I agree, it does appear to be a cast copy. Check the edge for a seam, definitely a copy if there is one. You can also weigh the coin, if genuine it should be around 70 grains.
