I'm relatively new to Romans and I wasn't sure about this one. Looks like someone tested the edge? It is about 19mm & 2.8g.
It would appear to be genuine. RIC 157: Probus AE Antoninianus. Rome Mint, 279 AD. IMP PROBVS AVG, radiate cuirassed bust right / ADVENTVS AVG, emperor on horseback left, raising right hand & holding a sceptre in the left, treading down a captive seated on ground to left. Mintmark R dot-in-crescent D(elta). Cohen 37, Sear 11953.
i don't know...something doesn't look right. i know there are some fakes of that type...is the edge filed? i hope i'm wrong.... the good news is i usually am. (good for u, not for me)
From the images posted, the edge looks good to me as does the portrait for Rome mint. The reverse is a little soft but I see nothing suspect.
ahaha => that's the spirit!! I have an example to compare your portrait against (sadly, it is one of my infamously poor home-photos ... but I hope it helps ... enjoy!!)
To me it looks genuine, but it also looks as if the edge/shape has been altered to make the coin perfectly round and the edge square, probably for mounting purposes?
Yes, that's exactly what it looks like. I don't see anything suspicious about the coin, and it's not a die match to the known forgeries that I'm aware of (this popular type does get counterfeited). It's an authentic piece of ex-jewelery.
John anthony is spot on, ex mounted coin. Completely authentic, but sadly rounded off for mounting. Nice portrait though, very Aurelianesque.! (new word)
Thats what I said. lol I think you can see the area that what ever it was in came over the coin on obv.
