Could someone tell me what happened in the area of IN GOD down through the bust? The mark under the E in WE? I'm thinking PMD/Environmental damage. Any other thoughts?

Not 100% sure, but I would think it is a stain/environmental damage.

Looks like a stain - nothing more, nothing less

PMD, in my humble opinion. :)

Thank you both for your confirmation of PMD/Environmental damage. At least I'm getting better at identifying this. Now if I can just get the doubled die down.

"If the letters are thinner, it ain't a winner. But if it's round like a bubble, you've got a double.";)

Basically if you take away the doubled part and the design (the letters) are not as large as they should be, it is a good indicator of machine doubling. But if the doubling is more rounded and adds to the letters it is mot likely a doubled die.
