    The eight in the date appears misaligned?

    it appears real to me. Also, in regard to the dates, in the past, they hand punched the dates onto the working dies. This lead to small changes in the position of small aspects of the coins such as the dates referred to as Die Varieites. I am not too familar with them, but that may be a reason why it might appear a bit off. It does not look misligned to me at all personally.

    But hand punching of individual digits ended in the early 1840's. In fact I believe 1840 was the last year that didn't have 4 digit logotypes.
