Is this note real?

I got this the other day. This isn't the exact note but it's the same note.

It's not textured and "starchy" like any paper money I've seen. I have a bunch of foreign notes. This is real smooth and flexible like a plain sheet of paper.

I didn't know Japan used the Dollar for their currency but use the Yen instead. I'm not foreign money expert, I'd say it's not real currency, at least for circulation.

Thats occupation currency. Japan made quite a few different currencies for countries it had either occupied or planned to occupy during WW2

It's MP currency, was used in WWII.

Edit: I know what it is, but still can't figure out why it's so smooth and flexible. It's like someone printed it on their color laser printer.

It is real, it was occupation currency used during the war. They are very common and not worth much that I am aware of but I know very little about them.

These notes were lithographed and not intaglio printed so the ink is not raised up on the surface like US paper money is.

This note was used in Malaya (the M in the block MP) which also used dollar as its unit of currency. You will see some sellers touting these notes as having been printed by the Japanese for their planned occupation of Hawaii and other US territory. There is no truth to that story.

These notes were counterfeited by the OSS. The counterfeits are scarce. Can you post an image of the back?

I need someone that knows their stuff about these notes. For all I know someone could of printed the damn thing on their printer. It feels JUST LIKE a sheet of paper. It does not have the texture or starchyness of any note I have ever handled.

Did you not read posts no. 6 and 7? Seems this person might know more than the average person. And post the front and back of the exact note you have - not somebody elses.

The occupation currencies I have seen aren't printed on paper we associate with most currencies. Though, if it's smooth like copier paper that may rule out it's authenticity.

The smoke from the ship on the back tells me it is not an OSS counterfeit. The smoke trail is not there on the counterfeits.

The paper appears to have red and blue fibers which is consistent with a genuine note.

While I cannot guarantee without examining the note in person whether it is genuine or not, the feel of the paper that you describe does not concern me as to whether this note is genuine. The Japanese lithographed these on cheap paper. It should feel smooth.

It is a fairly common note generally found in junk boxes. A genuine note is not worth much more than a copy printed on someone's computer anyway.

Love it. Too bad all our notes couldn't be like this. Rather than trying to find and buy a bunch of elusive banknotes, we would just have to get good quality color printers :)
