Check out this 1970 D Kennedy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-D-Kenn...56?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item53efd2ab80 I think very highly of PCGS, but I find this coin to be over-graded. The strike is not as strong as many halves I have seen. Note Kennedy's hair, his jaw bone, and the details on the eagle's chest. I would say this is an MS 63 coin. Compare with this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-D-Kenn...97?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item46097b7d05 The coin has a lot of annoying chatter on its surface, but Kennedy's facial features are very sharp indeed. This is a good MS 65 coin. Any thoughts?
Nah, I think the grade assigned is accurate - the coin has just developed some mint-set "haze" (toning), which isn't something that will typically affect the coin's grade negatively... exceptions are coins with heavy, distracting, terminal-black/brown toning on both the obv and rev - in these cases, TPGs will often ding a grade or two.
I am just not seeing the mint luster I would expect of a 65 coin (even with mint-set "haze"). I agree with OP, 63 (maybe 62). The second coin is WOW!
Nice coin. I'd guess 65 and possibly PL but it's hard to tell from the pics. The original coin is even harder to tell from the pics but it "feels" almost AU.
Concerning the OP, given the sellers picture taking ability, I cannot tell squat. I don't care much for the TPGer's, (ask anyone), but in the case of bad photos I would trust their judgment over anyone elses until proven otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE disagreeing with TPG, but unless I have crystal clear pics or the coin in hand feel its unfair of me to do so.
I agree with Chris. Comparing those two is very difficult due to the terrible images on the first one. Although, even with the poor images, it doesn't appear to have the luster a 65 should have.
