Is This Just a LOT of Cud on This Cent?

I've came across this Cent, and it has bewildered me. I don't know what this is on the coin, but I'd love to know!
Whatever it is seems to be made of the same material as the cent, so I *assume* it is cud.
It's the same color as the cent up until the very top, where it turns a darker-grey color.
If you can help define this coin, that'd be great. Any input is appreciated.

Looks like a piece of glue or something.
a CUD is a die break that is connected to the rim of your coin, which is not what you have.

Ah, thanks. That might come in help for future references.
