Hey guys. If you have seen my other posrs you already how that i am the number one fan of the nnew national park quarters. Im filling up one of the big maps and iys nice and all but in all seriousness i would like to start a high end business, proof, and silver proof set in a dansco album. I recently purchased some us quartrter proof sets and some ngc slabbed p and d business strike sets. Would it be sort of unorthodox to break open the proof sets and the slabs and put the quarters in the dansco? Thanks for your opinions! -Ryan

Haha a two by two is no more protective then a closed folder. Go ahead and fill up your folder

It is acceptable and people do it, they normally tape the label on the slab to the folder as well. In my opinion though, someone paid to have them graded and you probably did a little too when you purchased it slabbed. I would never do such a thing, it is certified authentic, assigned a grade, securely protected and stackable.

If you want to do albums buy the sets direct from the mint open them and put what you want into your albums. To do this get some cotton gloves for handling the coins and some 2x2 for the extra coins.
Sell the extras to friends or eBay them to recover some of the cost.
Buying slabbed moderns for albums is normally a large waste of money IMO.

I think it'd be fine if you were to crack coins out of a proof set, with proper protection from hand acids of course, but I probably wouldn't crack a proof out of a slab. First of all, the risk of causing just one hairline on the surface of the coin is pretty high, and secondly, it DID cost a tier-fee of $15 to originally get it certified. It is a completely different situation when it comes to proof or mint sets, THEY COME CERTIFIED.

Thanks brian. I wasnt plannin on cracking open slabbed proofs. I was gonna open slabbed ms66 hot springs quarters. But aftfer a few more purchases it wont be necessary anymore.

Crack anything out that you need. I have done it on several of my bust half dollars to get them into my album. Enjoy!

I agree. Many people do this, including myself but with other series, modern coins.

Personally, I feel like it is a waste, you pay a high price for a sealed set, then you break it apart and it is now cracked open and missing a coin, I feel like it is only worth it to break a mint or proof set open in you are filling all the albums at the same time.

I use Dansco for my coins pulled from circulation.

I use Intercept Shield for high end raw coins that I want to keep that way. And if I was putting proof coins into an album, I'd use Intercept Shield.
