is this for real?

    well i spent new years eve with some family and they pull out there jar of weird coins there were all foreign except this one large 1984 cent.... how did this happen?

    Looks like a normal zinc cent that spent some time on the ground.

    Hmmm, looks like it could be a very dirty cent missing the copper layer.

    Is the issue the difference in size compared to a normal cent?

    Betcha the large one is noticeably thinner than the other one.

    My guess is that it's been hammered between layers of leather. That would account for the size increase and the shape distortion.

    I've certainly never heard of being "on the ground" or being dirty as a cause of either phenomenon.

    Never mind. You were not clear with your question. I thought you were questioning the coin's color. I didn't notice there were two different coins for size comparison in the photos.

    Just me, but it's strange that both cents are the same color like that.

    looks like the same cent, but the top one being a bigger size.

    I know they've made larger coins, and smaller coins... - not the US Mint, but other companies.

    Looks like it was fed into those enlongated coin machine but it never got struck for some reason.

    well i made a drop test it dose not sound like the other cent, and it dose look like it has a perm, but it is metal

    It is likely an oversized replica.

    Well, they have a way to shrink coins to a fraction of their original size. Maybe somebody found a way to enlarge them.
