Is this Follis of Justinian a cast fake?

I found this coin in an auction and I dont intend to buy it at all.

But I want to hear your opinion:

    hmmmm.jpg

It has the "soap"-style and it also has several pits if you enlarge it (or are they just rust?).

Unfortunately there no images of the edge/rim.

If you are sure, I would like to hear your opinion: Do you think it is legit or a cast fake?

    Thanxs :)

I don't like it, but hard to tell from the photo.

The patina looks artificial, the color is way too even. My best guess is that the coin is genuine, but has been heavily corroded. It looks like someone painted over it to hide the signs of environmental damage and to make it more marketable.

Just from the photo, my 1st impression is that it's a cast fake. But if it is from an auction, I suppose they have an expert who validated the coin. Now... what kind of auction, that is the question...

I'll be the contrarian and say it's likely legit. First of all, if you're going to take the trouble to cast a fake you're not going to choose a worthless slug as the original to make the mold from. Secondly, this is what happens when a coin is left in a flowing body of water like a river. Not saying it definitely is a river find but has the looks of it. Could just be a coin that was worn to the nubbins.

Or it could just be a chocolate Easter toy.
