Was going through a few rolls of pennies today and found this. Does this look like doubling to you? Ive never found one before and would be thrilled if this turns out to be my first find. Ive researched the net and cant find a known example like this of a 1992 D penny. The reverse looks normal. I forgot to snap a pic of it. thanks.

Sorry, but I don't think this is. I have found about 100 ones just like that from the 70's and people on here told me that it wasn't worth anything. I was really excited when I found my first one too. I might be wrong, for your sake I hope I am, but I just kind of doubt it.

Well here's to hoping. lol. There are actually several things about this coin that caused me to post this. The first is the possible doubling. Next take a look at the back side of the L in liberty. Lastly the rim looks strange. Is it a misaligned die maybe? Like I said earlier the reverse is normal. The value takes a second seat to the fact of whether or not I actually found my first error!

The more I look at it the more the R in LIBERTY starts to look doubled so I'm no positive. I'll let someone try to give you a better answer, haha.

It's either called die detoriation or a plate split doubling...my memory is lacking today..

OK, Ive added a couple more close ups of the "In God We Trust". Ill need to look up more info on Die Deterioration Doubling. I'm new to this and that's a new term for me.

Late-stage die, die deterioration doubling all the way. Notice how the motto is merged with the rim.

OK, if that's the consensus my next question is this - Is it an error or no? Really just want to know if I can put this in my "first found error file or keep looking for the first :)

Also how do you tell the difference between die deterioration doubling and a strike double? To my eye the picture you posted differ a great deal from the coin I found (or is this a pic of a true double?) but Ive just got started in this finding an error thing. Ive ordered a couple of books from amazon that I think will help with these questions but they wont be in until next Monday.
