I’m trying to learn to identify the 20s, 21s, and 24s among dateless buffaloes. Am I correct that this ones a 21?
What unique characteristics in the Buffalo Nickel design allow you to pick out coins minted in 20, 21 or 24 without referring to or looking at the date?
The ribbon and hair knot. The Right Left side ribbon has more of a bend in the 20 and 21. The 21 also has deeper details in the top knot. As i said I'm just learning but i believe the lines above the top knot in my picture are those but I'm not positive. The 24 also has a different bend to the ribbon then those 2 or the rest of the dates.
What about all the other dates are their obverse design; while different in 20, 21 and 24, identical?
Honestly I don't know. I'm assuming the other dates are the same or have variations that cover multiple years. But its possible there are others that I don't know about.
