I’m trying to pinpoint the RIC number for this Constans coin but find that most are listed as CONSTANS even though the spelling is slightly different. I cannot find CONSTNS in RIC. Does it make a difference? CONSTNS PF AVG Rosette diademed draped right GLOR-IAEXERC-ITVS Two soldiers, one standard (M in middle?) Mint mark: PLG or PLC? 15mm 1.9g This guide shows the M in standard as Trier Mint so I’m confused a bit more now as I thought PLG is Lyons Mint.
Thee are many ancient imitations of that type. You have one that is unusually nice. Don't expect to find it in a comprehensive reference (like RIC) that lists only official issues, and don't expect to find it in a comprehensive reference that lists imitations (because there isn't one).
The imitator got the first four letters of the reverse legend right (GLOR), but the other letters at the top (NƎXEXT?) and those to the right (ITNC?) are a bit of a mess.
Hah! I thought I was just bad at reading legends. Makes much more sense now. The dealer I bought it from had not attributed it yet otherwise he probably would have caught it. I’ll have to show it to him next time we meet. Thanks for the help everyone.
