Is this considered an error?

    I found this 1911 D while detecting, I noticed the D was closer to the numbers than I am use to seeing, is this my first error find? IMG_0778.JPG IMG_0780.JPG

    no it's not a error . back when this coin was made the mintmarks were put on the die by hand and they can appear randomly on coins.
    I used to go detecting quite a bit and really enjoyed finding old coins and jewelry. I'm going to try to get back into metal detecting.

    They were hand punched back then so they tend to be in different places. Nice 11D BTW :)
