Looks like machine doubling on the reverse. I don't see anything on the obverse.

Picture 562.jpg I just zoomed in on the area, that was more focus. Jefferson's face - the date - & RTY in Liberty

My eyes must be playing tricks on me because I don't see any doubling of any kind.

I've found from searching OBW rolls of nickels that in the Sixties they must have really worn the dies out before replacing them. Die deterioration doubling is very common and that is what I think your coin shows.

agreed. Also, images sometimes show things that aren't really there. Lighting play tricks on you.

Look at just the 6 & 2 in date. In the last closeup photo above I posted. Put your cursor on it, and wait for it open in large photo, and just concentrate on the 6 & 2 in 1962.

It looks like a mild case of maching doubling. Too flat to be a double die, IMO.

In the second picture of the obverse, there appears to be some really cool looking machine doubling of the nose lips and chin. I do see what you're talking about in the 6 and 2 but I'm pretty sure that's MD as well. Good luck and keep searching!

COOL COIN! RIGHT? I know, not worth much. But, I yank errors like this out of circulation all the time. You never know! Sometime, in the WAY future, these might end up, the world most rarest coins!!! RIGHT? Someday, you see. I'll be right, HUH!

I don't think it's really considered an error. But it sure is fun to roll hunt. :D

I think it's caused by a deteriated die (worn out die). I might have kept to many, I have a old glass 10 gallon water jug almost full of coins, like this.
