i just picked up this coin the other day. it is in a slab but not from one of the 3 major TPG's. i need some from the experts to tell me if this is truly naturally toned or artificial. mind you i bought the coin for the color and not the grade in the slab. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.:thumb: after i get some feedback i will post the grade and the grading company.

Looks natural to me. Probably 68 or 69, can't see any marks in the pics, but they may be there under the toning so hard to say.

That's one of the neatest looking silver eagles I've ever seen. I couldn't say one way or the other which it is but I'll throw an opinion out there anyway. The obverse certainly looks natural and the fact that it doesn't exactly match the back I would say puts things in your favor a little towards NT. I say it looks natural to me. If it's not, somebody did a heck of a job.

Either way I think you made a great purchase. I'd send it in and try to get it slabbed. If it slabs and grades, I have a feeling it will likely be worth much more than you paid for it. I love both sides of that coin.

here it is in its slab. its graded by INCS (international numismatic certification service) MS69. i have never heard of them before. thats why i was curious what others thought about the coin. to me it looks NT. as far as grade i think its not to far off. and seeing i paid just over $40 for it i think i did ok.

I have seen eagles come out of tubes after years of being stored that looked exactly like this coin.

Yes, I have some also. I don't know if it something in the tube or the cap (which seems of a different plastic ) that gives that brilliant blue.

Overall the coin looks NT to me. I really like the way the obverse looks. I've seen eagles tone like this. I have a 96 which almost has the same obverse. I bought it from a kid that had it stored in his house. The family smokes a lot so it could have been something to do with that. I had a 86 that I placed my mistake in a bowl of wheat cents. Forgot about it and came back several years later and it had a very nice tone to it.

I agree with the consensus that the coin is NT. I have seen ASE's like this and actually own an 1987 that is very similar in an NGC slab. My concern is that the photos might be enhanced. That blue color is common but usually not that vibrant. As for the grade, I think we would need better photos to determine if the MS69 is legit.

All in all, I like the look of your coin better than mine.
