    Hello everyone!

I am completely new to the coin world so be gentle. I was cleaning out my house and stumbled on some old books in the basement. While flipping through one of them, this coin fell out. I cannot tell if it is fake or not and need some expert opinions. I doubt its real, but it would be cool if it was!

It's rather heavy but seems kind of small in size. I took a picture of it next to a bottle cap as a comparison. Thanks guys.

I agree. Cast counterfeit. But it is interesting nonetheless.

It is quite easy to tell if you are familiar at all with the coins. This is what a real one looks like -

You made the same mistake I did at first Cat - Charles III. The OP's coin is Charles IIII.

I need to take my own advice!

Oh, would that be Charles IIII or Charles IV? (smile)

Maybe not all is lost if the coin was actually made from Gold! However, from the looks of it, it appears to be a cast composition (probably lead mixed with some other alloy) that was Gold plated. Have the coin checked out by a by a reputable Coin Shop or Jewelry Shop to see if it is made of Gold or is Gold plated. You might just have an extra $150 or more in your pocket when you walk out of the Shop!
