San Francisco didn't even exist then, there was only a little ecclesiastical mission there called Yerba Buena. Of course the Chinese guy that minted this earlier this year was not aware of that fact.
Considering that the San Francisco Mint first produced coins in 1854, you're right to be suspicious.:thumb:
Besides the fact that there was'nt even an existing SF mint, the date is all wrong, and on the shield, there is 7 dark stripes rather than 6!!
OK guys we all agree this coin is a fake. For purposes of education what are those line along the rim of the reverse - from 12 to 3'0clock? Can that happen on a regular mint? What are they called? Is this an example of collar strike or off-center? Thanks.
Must be an early fake... the quality of the current batch of unmarked replicas is much better. However, the Chinese still have a problem matching the correct obverse die with the correct reverse (for some reason).
Wow!! It was 7 'o clock I had'nt had my coffee yet.... But seriously, thanks for pointing that out =)
