I found this penny today and it looks like someone might have tried to plate it. The penny is not very worn and you can see all the details of the wheat stalks so it w 20210829_193152[1].jpg ould be a nice penny if looked better. (Sorry the images are a bit blurry and 2 of them are sideways - I am old and couldn't figure out how to rotate them or crop. I am lucky I figured out how to get the pictures from the phone to here.) It is possible the penny has been in the back of the drawer all these years. Should I try to clean it somehow or just toss it in the bucket of random wheat pennies with all the others?

You can't fix it. Just save it with the other wheat cents but it's always cool to find a wheat cent.

It appears to be a 1942 cent that someone plated with zinc. Maybe to try and sell as an 1942 error as only the 1943 cents were legally zinc plated. Jim

Looks like a high school project. About 5 cents in a roll.
