Is this broadstruck

    I’ve been trying to improve my ability to detect and properly identify broadstrikes. I found this 1988 Lincoln that seems like a good candidate. It looks different at the edge of the coin where the mottos seem to be getting obliterated.

    This is different than what I normally see with minor misaligned hammer die strikes, where details of the mottos normally remain crisp and distinct even at the very edge of the coin.

    No, not a Broadstruck Cent.
    It's a Die Deterioration issue called the ridge ring..

    Excellent! While not a broad strike, I really learned something valuable because I’ve seen these ridge rings a lot on Zincoln’s and was quite curious as to what they were indicative of. Thank you for helping me understand what these are. :shame:
