Trying to see if this 1913 $5 half eagle is authentic, or not. I have no reason to believe that it is NOT authentic, and it is in a sealed case so pictures are through the plastic packaging it is in. How does it look from the pics?

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

Looks good to my eye, but I am not an expert in the series and there are some very deceptive fakes of this coin.

I would send it to PCGS or NGC or have it inspected in-hand by an expert.

If I acquire the coin I definitely will, at the very least, take it to a dealer and have it authenticated. It's already sealed up pretty good, even though it rattles around. Not sure what is going to happen with it though...

Where/who is selling the coin? eBay or some online auction? have you checked the seller feedback and such? Make sure they have return policies.

It's a part of a family member's estate, and I'm the most knowledgeable about coins, so I'm hoping either I get it, or I'm the one who makes sure it is taken care of successfully. We shall see.

Ah! Good that it's not an eBay thing to have to worry about then. Hope you can keep the coin in the family too. Let us know how it all turns out.
