I just picked up this ANACS slabbed Chinese silver dollar on EBay. Nothing about the coin or the slab screams fake to me but I’m hyper vigilant when it comes to pre-Communist Chinese coins. I’m curious if anyone sees anything suspicious? It doesn’t seem to have much wear for a VF30 but it has clearly seen some circulation.
Nothing about the slab looks off to me but I don't know much about these coins. The Anacs verification matches but they don't have a picture, so it is not the biggest help. https://portal.anacs.com/Verify/CertVerification.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
Im pretty sure the coin is fake. I have seen a lot of this type of Chinese coin offered up in all sorts of slabs. They seem to always look like this. The last one I saw was a PCGS slab but it had a TruView and that coin looked nothing like the one in the slab on ebay.
Yes that and this exact coin. I have seen a lot of these very same Chinese republic coins on ebay that are fake.
Were the slabs also fake? My slab doesn’t look tampered with and it looks like other ANACS slabs, but I’ll have to do a close comparison. I’ve noticed a lot of fake Chinese coins on EBay in fake PCGS slabs but haven’t noticed any in ANACS.
I've not seen any fake ANACS slabs and nothing on that one waves immediate red flags at me, but you're right to be hypervigilant, considering what the coin is in this case. I don't know the answer one way or another, but I'd be concerned. You'll definitely want to get some expert opinions on the coin.
