I have a 1988A $1 bill, G8978---5S, with the back plate number shifted slightly higher than on normal bills. Back plate number is 257. Any advice on what this is?

Is that one of those with the misprinted serial number?

It would really help if you could give us a photo to look at.

I'm sure it does, but for some unknown reason, the serial number must be kept secret.

Maybe George is feeling bashful and doesn't want his photo taken.

I have to tell you that I believe you have something here. It is always good, and respectful, to show a picture of both sides of the note. I believe fellow collectors would like to have the date series and plate position of this note to find more and in the case of a something so esoteric as this the more the merrier to make it a sought after collectable. I have this engraving error in several five dollar notes in uncirculated condition. Condition is a large factor in the valuation of these modern day rarities. Without a doubt it is a keeper. Hope that helps.

Last night I went through all my dollars and found my B/P 257. My serial number is G76815904T. So it is a different run. mine on the front has A1 fwA223. And No I don't know how to send a photo to this site. I'm lucky to get on this site. Remember I'm 72 and don't have the skills. Sorry. :watching:

I believe it is the position of the back plate number and not the number itself that is the question. The number as engraved in the plate is higher than normal, almost to the "E" in the big green ONE.

Correct mine is also up close to the letter E like Nevadabell. Also about a grade better than his.
